Fuerteventura Airport has reached five million passengers, making 2015 the first year in its history in welcoming this volume of travelers. To celebrate this event, the Director of Fuerteventura Airport, Sergio Millanes, and the regional manager of the Thomas Cook Group Airlines, Braulio Marrero, have welcomed the lucky customer as they arrived onboard a Condor flight from Düsseldorf. In fact, Condor was the airline that started international traffic at Fuerteventura Airport in 1973 with direct connections to Düsseldorf.

The passenger landed at the airport at 12:15pm in an Airbus A321 and was greeted with some typical products of the island as well as a reproduction of a ‘podomorfo’, a ceramic with typical engravings that can be found on the sacred mountain Tindaya.

The number of passengers reflects the development of Fuerteventura Airport in its 46 years old history. With more than 4.6 million passengers from January to November this year and more than 35,800 operations performed, the airport is the number 10 in traffic volume within the Aena network. Currently, 45 airlines fly to Fuerteventura, connecting the island with more than 72 destinations.

For Condor and the Thomas Cook Group Airlines the Canary Islands, and especially Fuerteventura, are very important destinations. The Commercial Director Short and Medium Haul Continental Europe of Condor, Tammo Gause, appreciates the good cooperation with Fuerteventura Airport. He said: “We can bring our customers to this beautiful island all year round. We are very proud that the five millionth passenger arrived in wonderful Fuerteventura and aboard one of our aircraft.”
